Mon Choix Ecolodge

Mon Choix EcolodgeMon Choix Ecolodge is the first internationally graded Ecolodge on the island of Mauritius. It is located near the Port Louis business, shopping and leisure centre and a stones throw away from the beautiful ocean.

At Mon Choix Ecolodge you discover the authentic Mauritius beyond its lovely beaches. Nestled in a preserved part of the island at the foot of the surrounding mountains of Upper Vallée des Prêtres, overlooking rivers and the valley is Mon Choix, ‘La Maison de Vallée des Prêtres’ – an ecolodge with comfortable guest suites awaiting eco-friendly travelers.

  • the business person who seeks a home from home relaxed atmosphere
  • the tourist who is also interested in the island’s countryside, history and cultural heritage
  • the celebrity who seeks a very secure hide-away
  • the convalescent who needs a rest and some pampering
  • the adventurer who wishes to discover the heart and soul of the island
  • the health-conscious sports person who wish to keep fit, or
  • the artist who needs a quiet yet invigorating environment to create.

Mon Choix is located in a 7 plus acre private park with its own rivers and walkways. It offers a mixture of traditional English and modern African décor. It is a place to relax, get fit, create and rediscover oneself.

An ideal place to watch the giant fruit bats, rainbows and shooting stars – a heaven of tranquility, an idyllic spot which captures the spirit of the island and its natural beauty. And from where one can easily go on Tours and Excursions to the main beachside tourist villages and do all the Water-Sports available (Scuba-Diving, Big-Game Fishing, Yachting, Water-skiing, Surfing, Canoeing, Para-sailing and Kite-surfing).

Some of their green credentials are as follows:

They use alternative energy resources
They take actions to: conserve water, install eco-friendly lighting, reduce oil/gas carbon emissions, compost waste food, recycle wherever possible, use bio degradable cleaning agents, source food locally, offer local employment, instruct staff in green practices, include green room info packs, conserve/care for wildlife in the area
Additional eco-credentials: Everyone associated with the hotel (staff, management and guests) is made aware that the hotel is an eco-conscious establishment. All rooms have a notices to guests to save energy by switching off lights, fans and air-conditioners. Solar energy is being installed to reduce gas consumption in the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry and the staff is regularly reminded of energy-saving procedures, and of the procedures for disposal of waste materials. Candle-light is used to a maximum in all common rooms and encouraged as being more charming. All rooms have a notice to guests to minimize water consumption. The salt-water swimming pool filter has eliminated the use of chemicals. Rain water is collected for watering indoor plants, and water from the nearby river is pumped to water the garden. Glass, paper, metal, plastic and organic materials are separated prior to collection. Organic material is used to make compost. Plastic bags are banned. We use our own re-usable containers for shopping. Plastic and paper tableware is not used. We have an ongoing policy of replacing equipment, appliances and consumables with more environment-friendly items. 100% of our staff is local and live in close proximity of the hotel, and we donate surplus furniture and other hotel material to local families. A maximum of our supplies are purchased locally, and a lot of the flowers and fruits used come from the garden.

The protection of the local area is closely linked to that of the hotel. Mon Choix sees this protection as a vital component of the product they offer. They sell the authenticity of the country and of the area in which they are in. They invite guests to discover and enjoy its natural beauty as well as its historical and cultural aspects. In their program to create and maintain hiking trails in the vicinity of the hotel, they intend to label rare plants and endangered species: guests will also be encouraged to take part in this activity.
