Air Southwest promotes summer staycations

Air Southwest promotes summer staycations 21-06There are more and more people looking to stay closer to home for their summer holidays. So Air Southwest is promoting some of the best experiences around the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands this summer.

A recent survey by VisitEngland into the so-called ‘staycation’ phenomenon found an 18% increase in the numbers of Brits choosing to holiday at home, with half the population saying they intend to take more domestic breaks than they have in the past.

Mike Coombes, commercial director at Air Southwest, said: “The staycation certainly looks like it’s here to stay and that’s great news for the domestic market. As a regional airline serving a range of destinations in the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands, we see a lot of people taking advantage of what’s on their doorstep and that trend looks set to continue. So whether it’s the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall, Glasgow City of Music or the Leeds Loves Food festival, we can put it all within easy reach.”

This is fantastic news seen as Air Southwest can boast about their permanently low fares, great customer service and green outlook for preserving our skies.

If you’re feeling boxed-in at home and looking for a short break you can change your outlook by getting away for a bit. It’s affordable flying with Air Southwest when prices start from ₤29 with no hidden costs.

They have a great green attitude to flying as they use a fleet of fuel efficient turbo-prop aircrafts that are designed for short-haul routes.  They use around 30% less fuel than a similar sized jet aircraft flying the same route.

A full aircraft is obviously more fuel efficient per passenger than a half empty aircraft. Because their aircrafts are smaller (50 seaters), they are easier to fill, so they burn less fuel per passenger.

Air Southwest flies at lower altitudes which is much less harmful to the environment. By flying lower they are able to reduce the harmful effects of emissions. The impact of aircraft emissions can be very different depending on where in the atmosphere they take place.  For intercontinental air travel, most of the fuel burn is at high altitude and there is a multiplier effect on the amount of CO2 produced.   1g of CO2 produced at high altitude has the same effect as 2.7g produced at sea level. Air Southwest turboprop aircrafts typically fly at 14,000ft, well below the height where this multiplier effect occurs.

Air Southwest cares about the natural environment and they work hard to minimise the harmful effects of any of their activity.  They aim to act responsibly in all areas of their business, from flight operations to ground based and office activity.  They operate a range of environmental initiatives, led by their in-house “Green Team”.

Air Southwest is fortunate to be based in the beautiful South West of England and wishes to help maintain the wonderful natural environment that surrounds them.
